Programmes Overview
The NISTE regularly organizes in-country and regional workshops on various topics of science and technical education, etc. A few regular training programmes of the Institute are described in the proceeding paragraphs
In-service Programmes In-service Teacher Training/Teacher Education Programmes
In line with its set objectives National Institute of Science & Technical Education, Islamabad, is offering Teacher Education Training Programmes to the technological teachers serving in Colleges of Technology/Polytechnics of all the four provinces of Pakistan on regular basis. On the average 200 professionals from various cadres undergo training programmes of varied duration every year. NISTE is offering the following 3 different levels teacher education programmes;
a) Diploma in Technical Teacher Education The Diploma in Technical Teacher Education for Technology Teachers possessing the qualification of Diploma of Associate Engineer consists of 44 weeks. The Institute has organized ten courses and 350 technical teachers participated under these training programmes. b) The Post Graduate Diploma in Technical Teachers Education The Post Graduate Diploma in Technical Teacher Education is offered for 26 weeks M.A/M.Sc./M.Com/B.Sc./M.Sc. Engg. Teachers. The course includes course-work, Industrial Training and Educational Project. The Educational Project are developed based on research work in college library, college laboratories/workshops and other information sources. The Institute has organized one course and 40 technical teachers throughout country participated in this training programme.
c) B. Ed. (Technology) Under the loan agreement between ADB and Govt. of Pakistan, the B. Ed. (Technology) a three years Degree Programme is started in this Institute from 1999. The Curriculum was developed during 1998 under the supervision of the Technical Education Project-II, Ministry of Education, Govt. of Pakistan. The B. Ed Tech programme will produce graduate level teachers for various technologies being offered in the technical colleges of Pakistan. The first two batches of 50 technical teachers is getting training under this degree programme.
d) Short Courses In order to keep working teachers afresh with the most modern knowledge and skills short courses are offered in a variety of technologies. The purpose behind such courses is to retrain technology teachers so that they could impart updated instructions to the students of diploma and degree levels. The Institute is offering short courses from 1987 and on the average 200 professional teachers from various cadres undergo short training programmes of varied duration, from 1 week to 12 weeks, every year.

Pre-Serivce Training Programmes
The NISTE offers certificates and Diplomas in Technical Education and its management system. Some of its new programmes under this charter are as follows:- i. Post-graduate Higher National Diploma in Computer Applications with specialization in Management. (PGHND) Post-graduate Higher National Diploma in Computer Applications with specialization in Management is offered at Post-Graduate level to Boys and Girls possessing at least Bachelor degree from a university. It is a modular programme comprising of four modules, each of twelve weeks. This full time programme is offered in two shifts, morning and evening.
ii. Diploma in Management Science (DCHS) The Diploma in Management science is a modular programme of six month duration, each module of three months. The Diploma in management science is offered during morning and evening sessions. The courses included in this diploma are designed in order to provide advance managerial skills to Government offices and entrepreneur in business and industry. The entry qualification for this diploma is a bachelor degree with at least two years experience on job
iii Diploma in Computer Hardware and Software (DCHS)
This one year diploma programme is consist of four modules each module of three months. The initial intake requirement is Intermediate (12 years of schooling). Programme is extensively designed for those who wants to work in the software and hardware industry at operation level.
iii. Miscellaneous/Short Courses Programmes Many courses of short duration, one to four weeks are designed and conducted in the following areas:
Poverty Alleviation Programmes
Under the Govt. scheme of providing income generating skills to the youth of Pakistan, many poverty alleviation programmes through skill development were started by NISTE under the Technical Competency Development Programmes (TCDP). The following courses are being offered under this programme:
The clientele of Technical Competency Development Programme includes private sector, ENERCON, Pakistan Air force, National Rural Support Programme(NRSP), etc

International Cooperative Programmes
The Institute plays its international responsibility in Science and Technical Education. Some of its international collaborations are UNESCO, Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC), Manila, SAARC, Sheridan College (Canada), etc.
